WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Today we will start practicing using texture to create value.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Understanding how to use texture and value can give our artwork more realism and visual weight.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will practice some basic value shading techniques.
Today we will work with TEXTURE and VALUE
TEXTURE is how a surface feels or appears to feel.
VALUE is the lightness or darkness of a surface.
We can use different TEXTURES of different densities to create VALUES.
Sabretooth sketch by Frank Frazetta
We'll practice making 6 step value scales using four different techniques.
Blending is shading that pushes color around to fade it out.
Crosshatching is shading with lines that intersect.
Stippling is shading with dots.
You will also experiment with creating your own texture to create a value scale.
Notice one box is completely empty. This is your brightest value. Can't get any brighter than the white page.
